To kick start the event, there’ll be a delicious local and continental market in the Underbanks area, each selling a fantastic range of goods and produce. If history is more your thing, Stockport Heritage Trust will be offering guided walks around the historic Market Place.
In partnership with the Library Service, a mini-literature festival comes to town in celebration of the 2008 National Year of Reading. You can listen to talented tongue-twisters, take part in storytelling or even have a go at creative writing.
Throughout the event, we promise you an exciting programme of street theatre, including a stranded 30ft whale which conceals a hidden sea shanty theatre show inside its belly! Another highlight includes a breathtaking high wire act performed by the nationally acclaimed Bernie Bennett.
Youth Action Stockport will officially unveil their young people's graffiti project in Adlington Walk. And, visitors will be invited to pick up a paintbrush and paint a piece of the jigsaw that will make up a specially commissioned 28ft by 8ft Culturefeast art installation. The finished canvas will be on public display following the event.
The Market Place will be the location of the main stage on 25 and 26 May featuring talented local bands many of whom have taken part in Stockport's Battle of the Bands competition. Look out too for local dance groups, hilarious street performers and even a couple of giant seagulls!
Culturefeast is organised by Stockport Council in partnership with Merseyway Shopping Centre and NIACE.
