Step back in time to 1940s wartime Britain and experience the sights and sounds of the homefront. Stockport’s unique Air Raid Shelters have been carved into the natural sandstone cliffs in Stockport Town Centre. When the shelters opened in 1939, they were the largest purpose built civilian air raid shelters in the country. In 1996 the shelters were re-opened as a
visitor attraction. They have been imaginatively restored to give visitors a feel for the era.
