This Green and Pleasant Land
Showing now and continues into 2013
Paintings from Stockport’s art collection

Enjoy a time out from the daily grind by taking in the tranquillity portrayed in this exhibition of landscape painting. Landscapes were extremely popular during the Victorian era when towns like Stockport were becoming increasingly industrialised. Artists loved painting them, collectors loved collecting them and gallery visitors loved viewing them.  Perhaps it was the feeling of escaping to the country that appealed when all that could be seen in the townscape were factories with chimneys billowing smoke.

Trends of Trimming Unpicked
Showing until 11 May 2012
From feathers to fabrics from ribbons to beads and flowers, hats have been trimmed in a myriad of ways throughout the centuries.  This exciting and inspiring exhibition explores the historic trends of hat trimming and the prospect of future trends.

The exhibition features hats and trimmings from the Hat Works museum collection and manufacturers and suppliers including Parkin Fabrics, Jaffe Feathers and Millfield’s Flowers.

The trimmings will be displayed alongside couture hats from renowned British milliners such as William Chambers, Scottish Designer of the Year 2010 and hat maker to the Queen Rachel Trevor-Morgan.

An exciting programme of master classes and workshops will run alongside this exhibition next year.
