Stockport Market is resurrecting the centuries old tradition of St Wilfrid’s Fair. Be transported back to medieval times with wandering knights from the Plantagenet Society, jesters and a jaw dropping bed of nails show.

On the Mile and in Castle Yard

Stalls in and around the Market Hall

  • Pen-y-Byrn Medieval Falconry  - Beautiful display of birds of prey and accounts from the Falconer on how they were used in Medieval England.
  • Stockport Heritage Trust presents the Local Market History along with a shoot the knight opportunity.
  • Ringwoods of History presents Sir Ralph of Epperstone still clad in his crusaders surcoat he talks about many of the treatments used at the time, whilst Matilda of Worksop takes you through popular herbs and medicines.
  • Warp and Weft from Sarah Gilkes demonstrations of braiding, heddle and tablet weaving as a Silk Woman.
  • Medieval Tile Making - Karen Tiler demonstrates medieval tile making, using replica tools and equipment and traditional materials with which the public can join in.
  • Wattle and Daub with Charlie Slade. Early timber framed buildings were constructed with this technique. Find out how mud is used together with straw to construct a building panel, in which the public are welcome to help complete.
  • Tapestry of Music, collection of early and authentic instruments - with knowledgeable musicians Glynis and Brian Radford on hand.
  • Culture, Tourism and Venues Publicity Wenches presents the latest event offerings along with the Running Orders for the Weekend.

Inside the Covered Market Hall:

  • Children's Giant Castle Painting. Have a go with and get creative your paint brush with Medieval Lady of the Manor, Victoria.

  • Food Demonstrations to tantalise your taste buds.

  • Step inside the Camera Obsecura to discover another perspective of the outside World around you.

The Black Guide - The Public Executioner will talk about accounts of punishment dealt to thieves, perks of the job with his recreated tools of the trade.

Court Jesters - Verbal wit, tomfoolery, and comic magic make these idiots everybody’s fools!

11.30am - 12 noon:    
Brandywine Duo - A range of hypnotising songs and ballards will be performed ranging from 14th century to self- penned repertoires. Not to be missed.

12 noon - 12.30pm: 
The Black Guide - The Public Executioner will talk about accounts of punishment dealt to thieves, perks of the job with his recreated tools of the trade.

12.30pm - 12.55pm:   
What a Palaver - Medieval Duo performing a jaw dropping Bed of Nails Show to make you grimace with delight.

1pm - 1.30pm:
